“It’s the most wonderful time of the year,” Andy Williams crooned in his iconic 1963 Christmas song.

Those lyrics instantly became famous because they capture the essence of Christmas month which, of course, is December. So what better time for couples in love to exchange their sacred vows!

“Everyone is happy in December,” said Lauren Burns, manager of Windy Hill Wedding & Event Barn. “We hear that frequently from brides and grooms who choose to get married around Christmas.”

Burns admits couples that get married in December are few and far between.

“December, January and February tend to be our slowest months,” Burns said. “But there are lots of reasons people may want to consider a holiday wedding.”

If December being the happiest time of the year is the first reason on our list, the fact that out-of-town guests are already planning a visit is a close second.

“A lot of times, people already have relatives in town for Christmas, so a December wedding makes a lot of sense,” Burns said.

A third reason to tie the knot in December is that wedding venues tend to be less expensive. Burns says that can be a huge motivator—especially for those on a budget.

And reason number four? The Christmas décor! Nothing is more beautiful than a barn wedding with ribbons, wreaths and decked out trees.

“We put wreaths on every window and door,” Burns said. “Last year, we had a total of six Christmas trees wrapped in beautiful ribbons.”

The decorations are also perfect for companies holding their Christmas parties at Windy Hill. This year, in addition to weddings, six local companies will celebrate the season in this 4,200 square foot space.

“Companies have discovered we are far more than a wedding venue. We also host parties and corporate events all year long—regardless of the season,” Burns said.
